Riverview Counseling - Frankfort Kentucky

While I have spent the last few months talking about my journey as an EMT, many of my readers are not aware that I also work as the financial director for Anew Alternative, a counseling center based out of Frankfort, KY.  Anew Alternative provides just that: a new, alternative way of looking at drug and alcohol counseling.

As an EMT I am often told, "Treat your patient, not the monitor."  If I obsess over just the numbers and readouts of the monitoring tools we use, I might risk missing something that I would otherwise have seen just by paying attention to the needs of my actual patient.  At Anew Alternative, we could just as easily say, "Treat the client, not the disease."  Addiction is a terrible thing, but it affects every person in different ways.  And while one strategy may work for one person, that same strategy might not work for another.

Anew Alternative provides a "whole person" approach to counseling.  We realize that after becoming sober, many people struggle with what to do next.  Their family may have left, they often have no job or money, and many are left homeless as a consequence of their addictions.  Those people often have no choice but to stay with those same friends who helped push them into the cycle of addiction in the first place--truly not an environment conducive to recovery.

In addition to counseling services, we also provide assistance with resume creation, job placement...even setting up bank accounts and balancing checkbooks.  We help provide the life skills that people with substance use disorder can use to overcome the stigma that comes from their addictions.  We help people find jobs, housing, and a future--so they feel they truly have something to live for.

Today, I am happy to announce that Anew Alternative has acquired Riverview Counseling of Frankfort, Kentucky.  This is the first physical location for Anew Alternative, and will allow us to meet with hundreds of clients weekly as we work to affect true change in the Frankfort, KY area.
